Ingredients
2 cups granulated sugar
¾ cup light corn syrup
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ cup water
1 packet (0.16 oz) Kool-Aid powder (any flavor)
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Combine the Ingredients: In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, mix sugar, corn syrup, butter, and water. Stir until fully dissolved and smooth.
Heat to the Right Temperature: Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until it reaches 250°F on a candy thermometer. If you don’t have one, drop a little syrup into ice water—if it forms a firm ball, it’s ready!
Add Kool-Aid and Baking Soda: Remove from heat and stir in the Kool-Aid powder and baking soda. The mixture will foam up—stir quickly to blend.
Cool and Stretch: Pour onto a greased surface or buttered parchment paper. Let cool slightly, then butter your hands and begin stretching the taffy. Pull and fold repeatedly until it lightens in color and becomes firm but still soft.
Shape and Wrap: Roll the taffy into ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces. Wrap each piece in wax paper to keep them fresh. Enjoy!
Notes
Mix Flavors: Combine two Kool-Aid flavors for a fun twist, like cherry & lemonade!
Butter Your Hands: This prevents sticking when stretching the taffy.
Storage Tip: Keep in an airtight container. If it hardens, microwave for 5 seconds to soften.
Gift Idea: Wrap in small treat bags and tie with a ribbon for a perfect homemade candy gift.
Now, grab your favorite Kool-Aid flavors and get ready for a fun, hands-on candy-making adventure!
