Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (divided into dough and topping)
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 tsp salt
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp melted butter
For the Topping:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup chopped pecans
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add melted butter, flour, and salt. Knead the dough until smooth (about 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a stand mixer). Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 1 hour).
- Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter into a smooth paste. Set aside.
- Shape the Rolls: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the dough and sprinkle with chopped pecans. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife or dental floss.
- Prepare the Topping: In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and pecans to create the topping. Spread evenly across the bottom.
- Assemble and Bake: Place the rolls, cut side up, on top of the pecan topping in the dish. Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Invert and Serve: Allow the rolls to cool for 5 minutes, then invert the dish onto a large serving platter to reveal the sticky pecan topping. Serve warm!
Notes
- For the best results, use room temperature ingredients to ensure the dough rises evenly.
- Use unflavored dental floss to cut the rolls cleanly without squishing.
- To make ahead, assemble the rolls and refrigerate overnight. Bake fresh in the morning for a stress-free treat.
- Sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on the rolls for a delicious sweet-and-salty twist.
